My child has allergies. Can they eat beany bites?
How old should my baby be before trying Beany Bites?
Every baby is different, so the most important thing is to assess your child’s readiness for solids no single age recommendation applies to every little one. If your baby is confidently self-feeding soft solids and shows typical signs of readiness, Beany Bites may be appropriate.

No matter their age, here are

a few safety must-knows:

🤏 Pinch First - You should never feed melts that have gone soft or spongy to a child: If the pouch has been left open pinch for a few hours try pinching the melts. Smoothie melts should not have any give. Melts should be firm, dry, and crumble under considerable pressure. Feeling a bit spongy? - All you 😉... Enjoy
👀 Always Supervise -  Sit your child upright and watch them while they are eating: Keep an eye for signs of difficulty swallowing. If it appears that the child is struggling to process the melts do not continue feeding. Ensure they are consuming a single melt at a time. Beany Bites are great for practicing their pincer grasp let them go at their own pace!
🥛 Offer Water - Wetting their palate helps melts dissolve: A small sip of water can make a big difference for early feeders. Offering water right before and between melts helps them dissolve even faster, which can make the texture easier for babies who are new to solids.
Remember to check the ingredient list 🔎 - In every batch we blend in whole organic Canadian grown soybeans and organic coconut cream. ⚠️ These are a common allergens. If your child has a coconut or soy allergy they should not consume Beany Bites Smoothie Melts Products.

Trying them for the first time?

here's a couple bonus tips!

✂️ - Cut them in half (a finger nail should do the trick)
🍍- Start with the tropical recipe! It dissolves rapidly!
👁️ - Monitor for allergic reactions afterwards

Our Experiences

A note from us as parents - This is not feeding advice

We’re parents first, and like many families, we’ve gone through the at times scary experience of introducing new foods to our child. We also hear from customers about when their little ones enjoy Beany Bites, how they introduce them.

We share these experiences because we know you're curious. We're asked... a lot.

Nothing on this page is medical advice or advice on your child's readiness to consume smoothie melts.

Always follow your child’s cues, consider their individual development, and speak with your healthcare provider if you have questions about introducing solids or allergens.

Our Family's Experience - (our recipes have changed since this time)

Jude was born 3 weeks early. He hit major milestones as expected but did not show much interest in foods when we first started offering around 7 months. Once Jude was eating some soft fruits (avocados raspberries), and oatmeal, we started to introduce our Smoothie Melts in pieces and with water. They were quickly his favourite food 😁

What We Hear From Other Families:

The baby in the photo at the top of the page was 7 months old when he first tried Beany Bites. This is not uncommon for us to hear from parents that are very confident in their children's eating abilities.

What is a Smoothie Melt?

Our Smoothie Melts are nutritious fruit, veggie, and legume smoothies blended up, shaped, and freeze-dried at low temperatures into a dissolvable and delicious snack!

No mess, no prep — just open a bag, and shake a few bites onto the table to let your little one self-feed (with supervision of course).

Which Melts do kids like most?
Strawberries N' Cream Melts are the all time best seller and a safe bet. Who doesn't love a good strawberry? 🍓
How many bites are in a bag?

We don't count the bites in each bag. We manually fill based on weight and we never ever underfill ever!

Each recipe is a slightly different density but you can typically count on 80+ bites of uninterrupted happy snacking.

Why Soybeans?
They're amazing!
We use Canadian-grown, organic, soybeans because of their quality protein, iron, fibre, and healthy fats.

Is Soy Healthy?
Short answer: yes — Soybeans are a nutrient-dense, plant-based protein that’s great for growing kids, and it’s especially helpful in toddler nutrition.

My child has allergies. Can they eat beany bites?
A word on allergies: Soy is a common allergen and if your child has a known soy or coconut allergy they should not consume Beany Bites.

Are you trying to introduce common allergens?
Many families today are introducing allergenic foods into their child's diet as a means of allergy prevention. The latest position statement (2021) from the Canadian Pediatric Society supports early and regular exposure in frequent and small, developmentally appropriate amounts, as a tool to decrease risk of allergies developing. Most of this research is done on eggs, and peanuts not soy.
When introducing a new allergen it is best to introduce a single ingredient at a time. Soft tofu and coconut milk are great options to confirm your baby has no allergies prior to starting with Beany Bites.
